NMA Chairperson James McArevey delivers a presentation for Warrenpoint Historical Society about Warrenpoint's wartime shipyards.
Warrenpoint may be best known today as a tourism destination, but during both World Wars it was home to a major shipbuilding industry that employed hundreds of local men.
During WWI, around 400 men worked on the construction of concrete barges, while during WWII a new operation was established to build Landing Craft Tanks (LCTs). At its height, the project supported a workforce of almost 1,200 people, making it one of the largest employers in South Down.
Come along and discover the remarkable story of the people, industry and shipyards that helped put Warrenpoint at the heart of the wartime effort. All welcome.
